BARBECUE CRUISE IN CONCEPTION BAY

Conception Bay with a boat charter including the historic Bell Island.
In 1890, iron ore was discovered and the mine remained the main industry
for 76 years, employing as many as 2000 people. It was the largest under
sea mining operation in the world. This mining operation, attacked by
German U-boats that sank four ore carriers waiting to load ore, (Stratacona,
Sagana, Rose Castle, and the PLM. 27 ), it was the only North American
land base which was attacked during either of the two World Wars. The
P.L.M. 27, the shallowest of the Bell Island wrecks, lies upright and
intact, with the deck located only 10 to 12 fathoms (30 - 40 feet) from
the surface.
On a boat charter of Conception Bay an option can be added to enjoy an
actual visit to these dive sites. The charter is fully equipped to accommodate
snorkeling and scuba diving for beginners and experts. While some people
enjoy the adventure involved in diving to the bottom of the Atlantic to
see incredible vessels, others enjoy the scenery and comfort of the calm
Conception Bay waters. The individuals that do not wish to enter the water
get "first pick" of steaks for the barbecue.
A first class meal can be enjoyed by all while sitting near a bonfire
on the beach. The meals can include steak, lobster, or a combination of
both with all of the trimmings.
