The Viking Trail Adventure

Travel north from the City of Corner Brook to the Viking Trail, and into spectacular beauty of Gros Morne National Park. This park has received worldwide recognition as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, for it's geological wonders and awe-inspiring fjords.

Enroute to Gros Morne your guide will point out many interesting features, including Marble Mountain Ski Resort, one of the best east of the Rocky Mountains, with a vertical height of over 1500 feet, and 26 downhill runs. Marvel at the autumn beauty of the Humber Valley as it follows the mighty Humber River, famous for it's summer runs of Atlantic salmon. We will stop at a lookout to see if you can spot the natural rock feature known as the "Man in the Mountain" on a rockface overlooking Shellbird Island. Legend has it the face on the cliff guards a pirate's hidden treasure. Captain James Cook charted this area in 1767 while he was mapping coastal regions.

Continuing onward, we pass through the community of Deer Lake, a town first settled in the 1860's, and a main part of the logging industry in this area.
Our final stop before lunch will be at Gros Morne National Park Visitor Centre, to whet your appetite for your tour of the park.
Probably the best way to describe this park is to say the UNESCO designation puts it on par with Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
Lunch will be served at the Hospitality Home of Mr. and Mrs. Parsons. The local dishes will offer a selection of game and seafood that will satisfy the culinary tastes of just about any adventurer.
Following lunch, you will travel to the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, which houses a display of the area history. The coastal highway snakes it's way around fjords, coves, and massive outcropping of rock as you travel to Green Point Trail. A 30-minute moderate trail along beach in Green Point Park offers a view geological rock formations dating back to Precambrian and Cambrian eras.
Park officials state "every foot step is 65,000 years in the past". Opportunities to find many fossils of different eras are available along with the panoramic view of the ocean.
This is one place you don't want to be without your camera, and lots of film!!!
Following your visit to Green Point Trail we settle in for our two-hour drive back to Corner Brook and, with memories you will cherish for a lifetime of your Gros Morne adventure, on Newfoundland's Viking Trail.
